KUALA LUMPUR: The AI at Work 2.0 initiative, in collaboration with Google, has enabled civil servants to save 3.25 hours of working time per week.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that the initiative provided 445,000 civil servants with access to Google Workspace, including tools such as Gemini and NotebookLM.
"This follows the success of the pilot project, which involved 270 civil servants. Ninety-seven per cent of participants reported saving 3.25 hours per week, while 91 per cent said generative AI had improved the quality of their work," he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) who had inquired about the strategy for implementing the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap 2021-2025, ensuring that its efforts were well-directed and optimised, while avoiding duplication between the ministry and government agencies. He also sought strategies to deepen civil servants' understanding of AI systems and their operation.
Gobind said that to ensure the responsible use of AI in the public sector, the National Digital Department had developed the Guidelines for the Adoption of AI in the Public Sector.
"These guidelines are designed to promote the ethical and responsible use of AI within the Malaysian public sector, aiming to improve service delivery efficiency, enhance decision-making accuracy, and optimise resource management and public safety."
He said that technology was evolving at a rapid pace.
"AI is one of the main drivers of current technological advancement and is expected to have a significant impact on all economic sectors in the future.
"Malaysia is taking proactive steps to ensure that our country is well-prepared for the technological future, especially with regard to AI," he added.
